'New Girl' Season 3, Episode 11: 'Clavado En Un Bar' Recap
by Shannon KeirnanThe boys are having a relaxing, drama-free Scotch tasting at the bar when Jess bursts in and yells that she has 21 minutes to make a life-changing decision.
She tells them there's a full-time fundraising position at the museum she has been offered. She loves being a teacher, but her school is a joke and only getting worse. She can't decide if she should take the job or not.
Winston talks about his career change from basketball... when he destroyed his leg playing on a hillside and his doctor told him to stop playing basketball.
Schmidt tells his story. He was a candy-striper, with a crush on a nurse. He asked her boyfriend one day how he got a girl like that, and he told him he's a man and he's in marketing. Schmidt switched to sales, selling Christmas trees. He caught the attention of the Christmas tree kingpin, however, he had a heart attack. He tells Schmidt money is the meaning of life. Schmidt goes and kisses the nurse, and goes into marketing.
Jess tells him the museum job pays more. Schmidt thinks that's end of story, but Jess wants to care about what she does.
Nick tells her to think about the first day of teaching. She finds a kid in the closet who was beaten up. She tutors him in math and he becomes a great student. Nick looks him up online to see how well he's doing.... they find Clifton is a criminal, wanted for embezzlement.
Nick talks about going to law school. His first year he hated people, the second himself. The third year he wanted to find somewhere to fit in... the bar. One day the owner overserved himself and history was made. He tries to continue but Jess interrupts him and tells him there's no time.
CeCe comes in and Jess tries to explain what's going on. CeCe says Clifton wasn't her first student. She reminds Jess that Jess helped her as a kid, when CeCe couldn't see the words in a book. The two become friends, crouched over their books.
The phone rings for Jess' final decision. Jess tells them she's not taking the job.
At her school, Jess gets everything crazy straightened out, but the principal takes the credit. Jess wonders if she could be a principal.
Winston quits his job. Nick hires CeCe at the bar, and shows Jess that he passed the bar exam. He could have been a lawyer, but it didn't make him happy. Bartending makes him happy.
On his walk home, Schmidt steps into a Christmas tree lot and begins selling trees.
