'New Girl' Season 1, Episode 5 Recap - 'Cece Crashes'

'New Girl' Season 1, Episode 5 Recap - 'Cece Crashes' It took five episodes, but "New Girl" finally addressed the elephant in the room... the big, sexy elephant that is the sexual tension between Nick and Jess. Jury's still out on whether it actually exists, though.

Cece, played by Hannah Simone, got a much-expanded role in "Cece Crashes" (makes sense since her name is in the title). Often, when you bring in an outsider, you learn some new things about your characters through their observations. The fact that Schmidt tries way too hard to the point of embarassment is nothing new, but when Cece mentions that she thinks Nick is interested in Jess, Jess listens.

Apparently, it's all about the feet: "guys point their feet at what they want," she says. So naturally, when Jess sees Nick's feet pointing at her, she freaks right out.

When Nick buys her roses to calm her down, she freaks out even more. Not quite as fun as last week's "penis" showdown, but still pretty good.

Schmidt, meanwhile, does everything he can to try to "close" with Cece, who is crashing at the guys' apartment for a few days. This involves walking around shirtless, doing inverted sit-ups, and listing off all of the things that he loves about India. Surprisingly, none of these things are successful. How could she resist?

Only later in the episode do we get our obligatory "aww that's cute" moments: Jess apologizes to Nick and they have an adorable toothpaste conversation, and Schmidt finally gets honest with Cece, which earns him a spot in bed and some hand-holding, which is probably as close to "closing"  as he's going to get.

Other fun stuff:

-"I don't dance. I'm from the town in 'Footloose.'"

-"Did you see that cleavage? I wanna get my arm stuck down there, like '127 Hours' style."

-Cece's boobs were seriously distracting this episode. They're always out there. Seriously.

-"I don't jump in the potato sack with the first potato that has diabetes."

-Schmidt's "sheepdoggin." Interesting method. I might use that.

-"Friday night, gentlemen. It's on."
