New Girl Renewed for Another Season
by EG
There was a time when a renewal for Fox's New Girl was not a sure thing, but at this stage in the game, the comedy is performing well enough that the network is confident in bringing Jess and Nick and the gang back for at least one more season.
The announcement this week that New Girl would return for a sixth season did not come as too much of a surprise. The series is now Fox's longest-running live-action comedy, and its average rating in the 18-49 age demographic puts it in a tie with Brooklyn Nine-Nine for the top spot among Fox's comedy series. Those accolades come with a disclaimer, however, since the network has struggled to find success with comedies lately, and New Girl's ratings this season have been down compared to last season.
For now, though, New Girl is going strong. The series debuted mid-season this year in order to avoid interruptions caused by baseball pre-emptions and the holidays, and because of its late start, the show has lots of unaired episodes in reserve. To get those episodes on the air before the end of the season, Fox will air two episodes each Tuesday between April 19 and May 10.
