'New Girl' Recap: Season 5, Episode 22: 'Landing Gear'
by Shannon KeirnanIt's the big wedding day!
Yet, Schmidt is nowhere to be found. Nick is in a panic, until Schmidt calls him. He's on his way to Portland to try to get CeCe's mom to come to the wedding. This doesn't help Nick's panic.
He brings Jess in on it, and she wants him to just lie, and hope for the best. They try to keep CeCe from finding out the truth.
Jess ends up telling Nick that Sam dumped her, and he suggests they just go to the wedding together. That seems great until Reagan shows up, ready to be Nick's date.
Nick gets a call from Schmidt, who is caught with a delay, but is sitting on his walkie-talkie when he is on the phone, and CeCe overhears that Schmidt is on a plane. Schmidt tells her he will definitely be at the wedding, they just need to buy him an hour.
The wedding begins, without Schmidt, and the plan is to get all the guests drunk to give Schmidt time. However there's an announcement and Schmidt's plane is delayed another hour. Jess doesn't know what to do anymore. She thinks they may have to tell people Schmidt is on a plane. She asks Winston to do a prank, but this ends with Winston accidentally dumping his clothes and phone down a toilet, and he has to wear the photo booth curtain for the rest of the night.
CeCe's mom appears. She plays some voicemails from Schmidt, who has been calling her every Monday for the past year to tell her how much he loves CeCe. She approves of the marriage, finally.
Schmidt calls again and tells CeCe to just have the party without him. They'll do the wedding part later. She's touched, since she knows how important it is to him. She has the wedding for everyone, and it's a great time. Schmidt watches via his phone. Nick tries to talk to Reagan and brings up the subject of a relationship, but it seems to make her nervous.
Jess goes to talk to Reagan, who is freaking out a little bit about a relationship with Nick. She asks Jess about how it went when she and Nick dated, and Jess admits they were a mess. She wanted him to be more traditional, maybe. But she has realized maybe that stuff doesn't matter as much as it did to her at the time. Reagan thanks her, and goes to Nick.
Schmidt doesn't get home until very late. The party is over... but when he gets to the loft, his closest friends and family are waiting for him, with the loft set up for a wedding. He and CeCe get married in a beautiful and simple ceremony.
Nick thanks Jess for whatever she said to Reagan, who wants to be with him now. He's down on himself as always and she stops him, angry that he's always so negative about who he is. She reminds him he is incredible. Inspired by what she said, he decides to "go for it" with Reagan, which means he's buying a ticket. She asked him to go to New Orleans with him for three months for work!
