'New Girl' Recap: Season 5, Episode 14: '300 Feet'
by Shannon KeirnanJess is trying to get in touch with Sam to clear the air, despite him having told her to get out of his life. She's been texting and calling but he wants nothing to do with her. She's mourning this at the bar when she is hit with a restraining order.
Nick and Schmidt go to the new bar in the neighborhood to talk to Connie. The new bar is taking a lot of their business and worse, parking spaces. Schmidt admires the ambiance but doesn't care for Connie, who won't tell her valet not to take the spots in front of the bar (which, everyone finds out, is called The Griffin. Who knew? Not Schmidt!).
Jess is still thrown by the restraining order. She goes to the police to try to get it overturned and Winston tells her she needs to leave it alone. In typical Jess fashion that's the last thing she can do. She decides to leave a note on Sam's car. She can't figure out which one is his, though, when she goes to the hospital, and ends up seeing Sam. To hide she dives into a truck bed... his truck, as it turns out.
She calls Winston and asks him to help. Sam goes through a car wash. She climbs out the back but in her attempt to get out, she ends up on the hood of Sam's truck screaming at him that she's not crazy.
Schmidt and CeCe are determined to compete with the new bar, Presh. But Nick doesn't want to compete with a fad. Meanwhile, someone has cut his soda line. He's furious and wants to retaliate. He and Schmidt put a fish in the vents of Presh. Later CeCe admits she accidentally cut the soda line. Connie storms in with video footage of them putting the fish in the vent. She tells them she's having the worst year of her life and they don't want to be messing with her. Her husband left her for her neighbor, and then, later, left the neighbor for Connie's mother. Now that they've messed with her, she will destroy them.
Sam confronts Jess and yells at her, and she makes a pretty tragic sight, lost, wet, and then when she runs into a sign pole, he breaks down and tells her to get in the car and he'll take her home. Jess tells him he was right to put the restraining order on her, because ever since she saw him she can't stop thinking about him. Sam kisses her.
Schmidt and Nick become incredibly paranoid about how Connie is going to strike at them, and end up fighting with each other and turning customers away. CeCe thinks maybe this was her plan all along. Nick calls a meeting of the "families" of the local businesses in the area to discuss things with Connie. He tries to keep Schmidt out of it, because Schmidt wants The Griffin to change so badly, but Schmidt shows up and tells Nick he is proud of the bar, and of him. Nick gives in and agrees to valet, allowing that the bar does need to move forward.
Connie decides to just call a truce since they're so weird. Nick asks her out (she turns him down).
At the loft, Winston enforces the 300 foot rule when Sam and Jess show up and reminds them to really think through things. Sam admits he couldn't stop thinking about her and that's why he got the restraining order. She is dangerous, at least to him. He's still mad at her and needs time to get over how she hurt him. He thinks maybe they need to say goodbye. He leaves.
Jess chases him down the street, and he lets her hop in the truck and they make out.
