Netflix/CW Deal Includes 'Supergirl' and Other DC Series
by EG
Last week, unconfirmed rumors about a pending deal between The CW and Netflix leaked, but this week the news about the deal is official. Both Netflix and The CW announced details about the deal that ensures that the network's most popular series remain available for streaming on the service. That's good news for viewers, but the announcement included even better news about upcoming seasons of the network's series.
The deal makes Netflix the exclusive home for past seasons of all CW series, including the popular DC Comics-based series Arrow and The Flash. It also includes CW newcomer Supergirl, along with new series DC's Legends of Tomorrow and Riverdale, both of which will premiere on the network in the fall. Also included are existing CW series such as Supernatural, Jane the Virgin and iZombie. The deal will also include any new series produced by the network will the contract is in effect.
The most attractive part of the deal for viewers is the accelerated schedule on which new episodes of the series will come to Netflix. Under the new terms, new episodes of each season, beginning with the 2016-2017 season, will be available for streaming just eight days after the conclusion of the season. That's in contrast to the several-month-long lag that has been typical to this point.
