Netflix Reportedly Developing 'Legend of Zelda' Live-Action TV Series

Watch out, "Game of Thrones"... there's about to be a new fantasy epic on television.
Netflix is reportedly considering a live-action TV series based on "The Legend of Zelda" video games. Though the company has not confirmed the news yet, rumor has it that it's in the very early stages of development.
If the show comes to fruition, this wouldn't be the first time "The Legend of Zelda" has been on TV. Back in the late 80s/early 90s, there was an animated show starring the heroic Link, along with shows for other Nintendo properties like "Super Mario Bros."
The Wall Street Journal broke the news, and is claiming that Netflix hopes to make it "'Game of Thrones' for a family audience."
Live-action projects based on video games aren't often successful. The "Resident Evil" series of movies did well enough for a number of sequels, but movies like "Doom," "Bloodrayne" and the laughably terrible "Super Mario Bros." proved to be financial and critical flops.
Still, Netflix has a great track record for original programming thus far, with hits like "House of Cards" and "Orange is the New Black" bringing in viewers and awards. Plus, shows like "Game of Thrones" have paved the way for more genre programming, and the Zelda series has enough recognition that even non-gamers know of it.
As long as the show contains the line, "It's dangerous to go alone. Take this," we'll be happy.
