Netflix is Ready for More 'Gilmore Girls'
by EG
Netflix content chief Ted Sarandos told Australian site Pedestrian.tv last week that the streaming platform is totally ready to produce more Gilmore Girls episodes. The downside of that announcement for fans is that Netflix will only continue the series if creator Amy Sherman-Palladino is on board, and it's not at all clear that that's the case.
Last month's release of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, a revival of the beloved WB series, was an unqualified success for Netflix. The four-episode miniseries, according to some (albeit controversial) sources, was one of the service's biggest hits of the year, and Netflix would be happy to give fans even more.
"We're definitely open to it if Amy is," Sarandos said. "We're thrilled with how people have enjoyed the new show and introducing the old show to an entire new generation of viewers."
Problem is, no one knows if Amy is open to continuing the series. Sherman-Palladino has said that she conceived A Year in the Life as a conclusion to the story of Rory and Lorelai, and she's not sure whether she'd be willing to write another chapter. On the other hand, A Year in the Life ended in a way that leaves the door open for much more story.
Sarandos' comments at least give fans some hope that they could be invited back to Stars Hollow at least one more time.
