Netflix has blocked an episode of Hasan Minhaj’s “Patriot Act” show from airing in Saudi Arabia after government officials complained, according to the Financial Times.
The episode featured Minhaj lampooning the Saudi government’s shifting explanations for the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in October.
“They went through so many explanations,” Minhaj said. “The only one they didn’t say was that Khashoggi died in a free solo rock-climbing accident.”
Saudi officials did not appreciate Minhaj’s punchlines and demanded that the offending episode be yanked, according to the report.
Human Rights Watch pounced on the concession Tuesday, arguing that Netflix should not have censored the program in the face of governmental pressure.
