Netflix Planning 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' Sequel for 1st Original Movie

They've wowed you with "House of Cards" and "Orange is the New Black." Now Netflix is gearing up for its first original movie.

The streaming service is planning its first feature-length non-documentary original film, to be released exclusively on Netflix and in IMAX theaters. The best part: it'll be a sequel to "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon."

Yes, 15 years after the release of the martial arts classic, "Crouching Tiger" will be getting a sequel. So far only Michelle Yeoh is on board, and she may be the only one of the returning stars considering the fates of Chow Yun-Fat and Zhang Ziyi's characters.

The movie will be titled "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend" and will release on Netflix on August 28, 2015.

Oscar-winning director Ang Lee won't be returning for the sequel, however the movie should be in good hands. Yuen Woo-Ping, who served as stunt coordinator/action director for movies like "Kill Bill: Vol. 2" and "Kung Fu Hustle" will be taking over. Filming is currently under way in New Zealand.

For those who would prefer to watch the movie on the big screen, "Green Legend" will be shown on IMAX screens (and only on IMAX screens), premiering the same week as the Netflix release. The Weinstein Company, who is helping to produce and distribute the film, is hoping for a big theatrical release in China, where Netflix is not available.
