Netflix Confirms Longmire Season 5
by EG
Longmire fans can rest easy. Netflix has ended seemingly endless weeks of uncertainty and speculation by finally admitting that it will continue producing the show beyond the fourth season of episodes that went online in September.
The announcement was made late last week not by Netflix, but by the show itself, which made a post on its official Facebook page.
"We've never been one to back down from a fight," the post read. "Longmire will return to Netflix for Season 5."
A&E caused a stir when it cancelled the crime drama after its third season on that network. The series' ratings had been solid, but A&E was reportedly unhappy that the show's audience skewed older than the age group that advertisers generally like to target. Fans were vocal in their dismay after the cancellation, and the show's producers began to look for a way to continue producing episodes for another outlet.
Netflix quickly came to the rescue and announced that it would produce a fourth season of Longmire which would be available for streaming on its service just like its other original programming. The 10-episode fourth season debuted on September 10. Thanks to the wonders of binge watching, fans quickly gobbled up the new episodes and were clamoring for another season within days. The announcement of a fifth season ends almost two months of unrest and begins the official wait for the debut of new episodes.
