Neil Patrick Harris Wraps on 'How I Met Your Mother,' Speaks Last Lines As Barney Stinson If you weren't sad over "How I Met Your Mother" ending soon, you're about to be.

Neil Patrick Harris sent out a bittersweet tweet today that'll bring a tear to the eyes of many "HIMYM" fans in anticipation of the show's finale.

"I just uttered my last word as Barney "Awesomepants" Stinson today," Harris wrote. "Nine years. Man, time sure flies when you're having fun..."

The ninth season, which premiered last fall, is the final season for the long-running CBS sitcom. After a short hiatus during the Olympics, the show returned with a new episode this week.

That means there are only six episodes left, and the show's lead actors are starting to wrap on their filming. Interestingly, Carter Bays tweeted back on February 20th that they were shooting the final scene of the finale, so whichever line Harris just read was part of an earlier scene.

The good news for fans of the show is that the spinoff, "How I Met Your Dad," is in full pre-production swing. Most recently, Eliza Dushku tweeted out that she was reading the script for the show.

That created some mystery for those following along in casting, as indie darling Greta Gerwig has already been cast as the lead. Would Dushku end up playing the best friend? Will she be the female version of Barney?

If so, she would have big shoes to fill. Farewell, Barney Stinson. Your character will always be legen...wait for it...dary.
