NBC Shuts Down Its Comedy Streaming Platform

After a round of layoffs and seeing its top exec depart, NBCUniversal's digital platform Seeso is officially shutting its doors.

"We’re writing to let you know that later this year, Seeso will be shutting its comedy doors," the company wrote on its Facebook page Wednesday.

That the comedy-focused digital platform, which launched in 2015, would shut down comes as little surprise. Layoffs hit the company in June as the SVOD service's business model was being re-evaluated. That followed the May departure of Seeso head Evan Shapiro, leaving NBCUniversal president digital enterprises Maggie Suniewick to take over his responsibilities.

In the interim, Seeso is searching for a new home for scripted originals including There's … Johnny as well as other originals. Johnny was poised to premiere on Seeso. That is no longer happening as NBCU searches for a new home for the Johnny Carson comedy.
