NBC Sets Next Live Musical: Peter Pan!
by Andy NeuenschwanderNBC's follow-up to "The Sound of Music Live!" is already decided: The network is taking us to Neverland.
At NBC's presentation during the Television Critics Association press tour, network chair Bob Greenblatt announced that NBC's next musical will be "Peter Pan."
Greenblatt didn't go into much detail, but we do know that the presentation will be live, and that it will be based more on the Broadway version than the Disney movie version.
This announcement follows the success of "The Sound of Music Live!" which brought in huge ratings for the ailing network, along with major social media mentions.
The decision to take on "Peter Pan" presents new challenges to the production team in charge, as the telecast will require much more in terms of special effects than "Sound of Music" did. Singing children and wire work in one live production? That's risky, NBC.
The live "Peter Pan" telecast will premiere on December 4th, giving us all plenty of time to speculate on who will land the lead role. What do you think? Will NBC go with a male or female actor for the role of Peter Pan? Let us know your dream cast in the comments.
