NBC Renews 'Hannibal,' 'About a Boy' and More
by Andy NeuenschwanderWhether you're into cannibalism or lighthearted family comedy, NBC will have you covered for at least one more season.
The network has announced a number of renewals, including fan favorite "Hannibal," which will get a third season. The renewal comes thanks to an impressive performance for the show in a Friday time slot on an ailing network: The second season of the show averaged 3.9 million total viewers and a 1.5 in the demo. While those aren't overwhelming numbers, they're good enough for a Friday night.
Joining "Hannibal" on the list of drama renewals are "Grimm," "Chicago Fire" and its spin-off "Chicago PD," solid performer "The Blacklist" and the long-running "Law & Order: SVU." The fate of genre show "Dracula" has not been announced yet, however NBC did pick up another dark genre show in "Constantine," so that might mean the end for the vampire series.
As for comedies, "About a Boy" has been a pleasant surprise for NBC, and has thus earned a second season. The show had a very strong start thanks to its premiere following a broadcast of the Olympics, and continued to get great support with a lead-in from "The Voice." The show has averaged a 2.1 in the demo.
"About a Boy" joins "Parks & Recreation" in getting another season, and could soon be joined by "Growing Up Fisher," another decent performer.
