NBC Mulling 'The Office' Spinoff with Dwight Schrute
by Andy NeuenschwanderHave you ever found yourself watching "The Office" and thinking to yourself, "Man, I wish this whole show was just about Dwight Schrute," and then sighing because you know that all those other characters are in the way?
No? Well, anyway... NBC is making a spinoff of "The Office" with Dwight Schrute. React accordingly.
The news comes from Deadline, which reports that the possible spinoff is very much in the early development stages as of now. The idea apparently came from Rainn Wilson (who plays Dwight) and EP Paul Lieberstein joking around about the Schrute Farms bed & breakfast, which has made an appearance in a couple of episodes.
The spinoff would center around said B&B owned by Dwight, and delve more into his family and his life at home. We've heard snippets of the craziness that is Dwight's family of German immigrants, and seen some of the rather hilarious cousin Mose, so there could be something to this.
After all, it might be time for "The Office" to start thinking about the end... the show has been running for eight seasons, and lost star Steve Carell last year. And as we saw with "Friends" and "Joey," if there's one thing NBC likes to do with its long-running, successful shows, it's give them spinoffs.
Still, one has to wonder if a full half hour of Dwight every week is a little too much Dwight. What do you think? Would you watch a spinoff about Schrute Family Farms?
