NBC Drops Donald Trump Over Racist Comments About Mexicans
by Andy Neuenschwander
Looks like Donald Trump just got himself fired.
The "Celebrity Apprentice" personality, presidential candidate and all-around loudmouth has officially been dropped by NBC after making racist comments about Mexicans in his bid for the presidency. Last week, Trump insinuated that Mexican immigrants were mostly rapists and involved in drug trades while talking about shutting down the Mexico/U.S. border.
In reponse, Univision almost immediate canceled their coverage of Trump's Miss USA and Miss Universe beauty pageants. Now it seems that NBC has followed suit.
"At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values," the network said in a statement. "Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump."
The statement specifically notes that Miss USA and Miss Universe will not air on NBC as they have in the past. For those who enjoy watching "The Apprentice," there's good news: NBC will continue airing the show as Trump has stated that he will no longer appear on it anyway, likely due to his candidacy.
