NBC and Netflix Cancel Bill Cosby Shows Following Resurfaced Rape Allegations
by Andy NeuenschwanderThe hits keep coming for Bill Cosby.
Just days after former supermodel Janice Dickinson came out as yet another woman alleging that Bill Cosby drugged and raped her, NBC has pulled the plug on their Cosby-produced sitcom, which was in development at the network.
Additionally, reports say that Netflix has halted any plans to feature a new stand-up special from the comedian.
Though the allegations against Cosby have come up multiple times before over the decades, it was only recently, when comedian Hannibal Burress mentioned the allegations in a stand-up set of his own, that the story really took off.
Since then, the victims who came out before have found more avenues of stating their case publicly, and additional victims have contributed their stories.
In all the allegations thus far, the women recount similar events: Cosby allegedly invited the victims out on the pretense of discussing their careers, then drugged their drinks and sexually abused them.
Cosby himself has remained completely silent on the issue, but his lawyer recently issued a statement on the comedian's behalf. In it, he neither confirmed nor outright denied the allegations, instead taking the stance that the allegations didn't even dignify a response.
The Neflix special was already filmed and was set to premiere on November 28. As for the NBC sitcom, it was still in development and likely not planned to premiere until the Fall 2015 season.
