Nathan Fillion to 'Firefly' Fans: I Won't Buy the Series With Your Money

PR Photos "Castle" and "Firefly" star Nathan Fillion learned an important lesson recently: be careful what you say, even off-handedly, or else the internet will take you completely seriously.

In a recent interview, Fillion (who played Captain Malcolm Reynolds on the cult hit show "Firefly") said that if he won the lottery and got $300 million, he would buy the rights to "Firefly" and distribute it on the internet.

Just days later, a fan had already started a fundraising page asking the internet at large to donate money so they could help reach the $300 million goal.

Fillion recently appeared on the "Nerdist" podcast, where host Chris Hardwick asked Fillion about the comment and the results. "I will [buy the show] if I win 300 million on the lottery, but that's the only way," said FIllion.

"And don't send me lottery tickets, either." Fillion agreed with Hardwick that people's money would be better spent providing for their families or going to important charities.

This isn't the first time we've seen funds inappropriately raised on the internet. Recently, after Detroit Mayor Dave Bing refused suggestions to build a statue of Robocop in the city, the internet immediately started raising money, and now has enough to erect a statue of the 1980's sci-fi movie hero.

So, you heard it straight from Captain Mal himself, Browncoats: save your money and just watch "Firefly" right here on Yidio!
