Natalie Portman's 'No Strings Attached' Leads Friday Box Office

After clinching a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress, Natalie Portman found similar success at the box office. Her new movie “No Strings Attached,” with actor Ashton Kutcher, topped the box office on Friday.

According to early estimates released by the Paramount Studios, the romantic comedy accumulated more than $7.3 million gross ticket sales in its first week, and movie critics are projecting that it will earn close to $20 million this weekend.

Sony Pictures' super hero comedy movie “The Green Hornet,” starring Seth Rogen and Taiwanese singer Jay Chou, ranks second in the box office with $ 5.1 million gross from 3,584 theaters. Since its opening, the movie already made $50.4 million for eight days, and is projected to finish the weekend with $17 million gross sales.

Universal Studios’ comedy film “The Dilemma,” starring Vince Vaugn and Kevin James, ranked third, grossing an estimated $3 million from 2,943 theaters.

The British historical drama “The King’s Speech,” about the stuttering King George VI and starring Golden Globe Best Actor Colin Firth, ranked fourth, with $2.1 million gross sales.

True Grit” starring Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, and neophyte star Haile Steinfield (who won the Critic’s Choice Award for Best Young Actress) made an estimated $2.1 million during the Friday box office accumulating a total of $132.8 million since its opening.

Meanwhile, the newly released war drama “The Way Back,” starring Collin Farrel, Jim Sturgess and Ed Harris and directed by Peter Weir, gained only $375,000 from 659 theaters.

Ben Affleck’s “The Company Men” made only $172,000 gross from 106 theaters.
