'Nashville' Season 1, Episode 3: 'Someday You'll Call My Name' Recap

In this weeks episode, we start off at a glitsy photo shoot with Juliette Barnes. At the shoot her manager then tells her that her drug addict mother is back in town. As she is walking off the set she is surprisingly confronted by her. Juliette uncomfortably gets in the car while trying to not acknowledge her.

On the other end of the spectrum, Rayna is with her family at her country mansion where her girls are struggling with what to wear for their school talent show. Deacon calls her as she is cooking -well, pouring yogurt- and she seems uncomfortable.

In preperation for their big recording, Scarlett and Gunnar are making beautiful music in Scarlett and Avery's apartment. Avery walks in and seems to be bothered by them rehearsing and possible success.

Things are geting seemingly less cozy over at Rayna's as they are running into money issues. To fund Teddy's campaign and their lifestyle they would have to find another way of earning money. The options are to refinance the house, borrow money from Rayna's father, or she can go on tour with Julliette. She cringes at all the options but they end up settling on refinancing, and taking a loan out on the house.

Juliette, who can't take no for an answer, calls up deacon and says that if he wants to record the song that they wrote together that he would have to come in that day. He shows up last minutes and they record their song.

Meanwhile in a separate but similar studio Scarlett and Gunnar are recording their songs. As they try to record, Scarlett can't find her groove. Her nerves have gotten the best of her and she can't seem to get used to technical aspects of recording like headphones and hearing herself.

Overwhelmed Mr. White, the music producer, calls it a day. Scarlett walks out of the door sure that she blew it. Gunnar stays to talk to Mr. White. While walking out to their cars Gunnar tells Scarlett that they still have a chance and that they'll just use another female voice. They're striving for a publishing deal here not a recording one after all.

While going through outfits for her tour, Rayna gets a letter from her father. It's for $500,000! Of course there's a catch though, he's a slick guy.

If she accepts the money then there will be various rules and stipulations she must follow in relation to her career, i.e. while Teddy is running she may only release a greatest hits album.

Rayna's Father surprises her at her daughters talent show, not a good surprise though. She gets fired up and basically tells him where he can go.

On a high note though, Rayna's little girls sang one of Juliette's songs for the talent show and it was beautiful. Why wouldn't it be though, they've got country superstar blood!

Juliette is mixing business with pleasure because Deacon and her have slept together again. While they're in bed her insecurities come out. We also get a glimpse into why Juliette dislikes Rayna. She feels like she had everything handed to her and was privileged. This also complicates who Deacon will go on tour with. He's comitted to Rayna, but it Juliette always gets what she wants.

While in bed, the romance is interrupted when Juliette's mother shows up at her house. (She loves to just show up unannounced!) She tells her security to just put her on a bus. If only it were that easy.

When her mother was at the train station she tried to steal lunch and when the cops came they found drugs on her, after she said she was clean. He manager says that for the sake of her career and her mother she should stay with her.

Over at the bar, Scarlett tells Avery that she couldn't sing. He tells her that she just needs his support and that he'll go with her. When he's there though, he appears to have just used it as an opportunity to meet Mr. White not help Scarlett.

Something fishy is going on with Teddy and his past business dealings. When he goes in to apply for his loan he discovers that the FBI will do an audit of any applicants. He says that he shoudl ask Rayna (which he of course already did!) and walks out of the bank.

Unaware of Teddy's backing out of the loan, Rayna is having a heart to heart with Deacon. She basically says that she is still holding on to him emotionally and needs to let him go. This also includes possibly letting him go form the tour.

In the final scene we see Juliette walk through a grocery store distraught over her mothers return. She steals a bottle of nail polish. Did she do it for attention, was she acting out, or did she just not have the six bucks. We'll have to wait until next week to find out the answer.
