Naomi Watts Cast in 'Divergent' Sequels
by Andy NeuenschwanderSay hello to your new Factionless leader!
Naomi Watts has been cast in a major role in the upcoming "Divergent" sequels, as confirmed by THR. Watts' role will be that of Evelyn, the woman who becomes the leader of the Factionless, the population in the series' dystopian future who were not selected into, or failed out of, one of the city's five factions.
The character of Evelyn has personal ties to some of the main protagonists, and the Factionless become a larger factor in the near-future Chicago's political landscape after the events of "Divergent," so Watts will have a part in not only "Insurgent," but also the two parts of "Allegiant."
"Insurgent" just began filming last week in Atlanta, so Watts will likely be jumping right into the production. She joins an already impressive cast that includes breakout stars Theo James and Miles Teller, as well as three Oscar nominees in Shailene Woodley, Octavia Spencer and Kate Winslet.
"Divergent" was seen as a modest success, earning $267 million worldwide, however speculators were slightly disappointed with the numbers, expecting more after the huge performances of the fellow dystopian teen fiction series of "Twilight" and "The Hunger Games."
However, it's worth noting that the first "Twilight" movie made very little money in comparison to the rest of the series, and the release of "Divergent" might have brought even more fans onto the bandwagon.
"Insurgent" is set to release in late March of 2015.
