Mystery Science Theater 3000 Revival Announces All-Star Cast, Guarantees Six New Episodes
by EG
The Kickstarter campaign to revive the comedy series Mystery Science Theater 3000 is going strong, and Joel Hodgson, the show's creator, has announced the actors who will fill the on-camera roles in the new version of the series.
In the latest casting news, Hodgson has revealed that comedian Patton Oswalt will play the son of evil henchman Frank from the original series. In typical ludicrous MST3K fashion, the character's name will be TV's Son of TV's Frank in reference to the original character's nickname.
Oswalt's TV's Son will be the sidekick of Kinga Forrester, the daughter of original villain Dr. Clayton Forrester. Kinga will be portrayed by web-nerd darling Felicia Day.
The reboot's movie-riffing crew will be filled by lesser-known actors, including Jonah Ray as the host and Hampton Yount and Baron Vaughn as his robot friends Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot.
The MST3K Kickstarter has so far pulled in $3.4 million, enough to guarantee the production of six new episodes. The campaign has until December 12 to reach its goal of $5.5 million and 12 new episodes. The campaign's contribution total to date is enough to make it Kickstarter's second most-funded Film & Video campaign of all time.
