'Mystery Science Theater 3000' Reunion Tides Fans Over

The revival of the nerd classic TV series Mystery Science Theater 3000 got the funding it needed through Kickstarter last year with ease, but production on the new series has been slow to get started. Fortunately, fans of the series will get a special treat next week - a first-time-ever reunion of the series' entire cast - that should keep them happy until new episodes of the show are finally available.

The event can't even be properly called a reunion, since the entire cast that will be present at the June 28 event was never on the show all at once. The get-together will be part of a live performance of Rifftrax, the MST3K-like project created by cast members Mike Nelson, Bill Corbett and Kevin Murphy. Nelson, Corbett and Murphy will be joined by series creator Joel Hodgson and former cast members Trace Beaulieu, Frank Conniff, Mary Jo Pehl and Bridget Nelson. Also along for the night will be Jonah Ray, the host of the new revival series.

The Rifftrax event will be broadcast to theaters across country by Fathom Events.

The series' revival, in the meantime, is in preproduction, but production has been delayed by boring legal stuff, including problems getting international rights to movies that will be featured in the series. Hodgson, who is helming the revival, has not yet given an estimated time of arrival for the new episodes.
