Mysterious Hoverboard Hoax Appears Online - Watch the Huvr Video and See Why It's Fake
by Andy NeuenschwanderYour latest elaborate Internet hoax comes to you now in the form of hoverboards.
A very convincing video went viral today from a (supposed) company called Huvr Tech, claiming to have created the first fully functioning hoverboard, a la "Back to the Future."
Not only are the special effects in the video slick enough to fool many who watch it, but somehow the people behind Huvr have gathered an impressive group of celebrities to star in the video.
"Back to the Future" star Christopher Lloyd is joined by pro skater Tony Hawk and retired football player Terrell Owens in the video, where they seemingly demo the product.
The result makes you hope the whole thing is real...after all, who wouldn't want to glide through the air on a Mattell-colored hoverboard?
Sadly, many have pointed out that harnesses are visible in some shots. Additionally, none of the technology behind the device is satisfactorily explained.
Putting the nail in the coffin is the fact that the demonstrator in the video, supposedly one of the MIT students who created the device, is an actor by the name of Nelson Chang.
That leaves the question: Why does this exist? Some are theorizing that it's a viral campaign for a new "Back to the Future" movie to reboot the series. Others have noticed that the video talks about the Huvr app quite a bit, and have decided that it's likely a campaign for a new app startup of some kind.
Others think Jimmy Kimmel might be behind it. And with all his recent hoaxes, can you blame them?
