Is a Musical 'Mean Girls' Coming to Broadway?

I’m torn between saying “fetch” and “grool" about this news.

Who am I kidding? Fetch is not going to happen. But a “Mean Girls” musical just might!

Tina Fey, who wrote and acted in the popular 2004 Linday Lohan flick, confirms plans to bring a musical adaptation to life on stage.

“I’m trying to develop it, actually, with my husband, who does all the music for ‘30 Rock,’” Fey said, causing screams of delight around the world. “And I think Paramount’s on board. I’m pretty sure—I’m confident that Paramount will give us the permission to work on it.”

Fey added, “I think [my husband]’s secretly been working on it for years,” which ties into a 2007 interview with MTV where Fey noted that her husband (composer Jeff Richmond) had written some music for a musical version.

“Mean Girls” is so popular that even “American Idol” judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj argued recently over who was a bigger fan. But then again, what won’t they argue over?

When asked about the heated competition, Fey was thrilled.

“I loved it! And I think Mariah won. Like, Mariah seemed to really know all the characters. Maybe she can play Amy Poehler’s part (the “cool mom”) in the musical.”

The movie, which earned Fey a Writer’s Guild Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, starred Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried, and Lacey Chabert, alongside “Saturday Night Live” alums Fey, Poehler, and Tim Meadows.

Would you be excited to see “Mean Girls” hit Broadway?

As long as something peppy along the lines of “You Go, Glen Coco,” is included, count me in.
