Watch the Muppets Zing Fox News Over 'Liberal Agenda' Accusations
by Andy NeuenschwanderA while back, Fox News accused "The Muppets" of brainwashing our children by forcing a "liberal agenda" on them. That's right, according to Fox News, Kermit is nothing more than a malevolent Marxist, not content to keep his views about the evils of oil companies to himself and attempting to indoctrinate your child instead.
That, of course, is pretty silly. Most fans of "The Muppets" will tell you the same: yes, the bad guy in the movie was an oil tycoon, but he was a particularly, greedy, evil, heartless oil tycoon. He very easily could have been in any other business and still have been a jerk, but for the plot to work he needed to be an oil tycoon.
Though fans rushed to the defense of the Muppets, the fuzzy stars of the film themselves didn't step forward and make an official statement on the matter until fairly recently.
At a press conference in England for an international premiere for "The Muppets," Kermit and Miss Piggy fielded some questions from reporters. One of them asked about the Fox News incident, and Kermit responded by calling the accusations "categorically untrue." He also pointed out that it wouldn't make much sense for them to rail against oil companies while driving a "gas-guzzling Rolls Royce" for most of the movie.
Miss Piggy was, of course, a little snarkier than Kermit on the matter. Check out the video below for her zinger of a comment:
