The 'Munsters' Reboot is Dead, and Not in a Herman Munster Way

The 'Munsters' Reboot is Dead, and Not in a Herman Munster Way It might be time to say goodbye to "Mockingbird Lane."

Deadline is reporting that the show, which is a reboot of the classic 1960's sitcom "The Munsters," is on the verge of being shelved indefinitely by NBC. That might not be too surprising when you consider that the attempt was to turn the former sitcom about a monster family into a drama about a monster family (considerably harder to pull off), but word is that the pilot was actually looking pretty good.

"Mockingbird Lane" was being helmed by Bryan Fuller, who created "Pushing Daisies," so the show used a unique visual style in keeping with Fuller's strengths. However, the high-concept script apparently just wasn't working, despite the visual promise.

The cast included Jerry O'Connell as Herman Munster, "Arrested Development" star Portia de Rossi as Lily and comedian Eddie Izzard as the quirky grandpa. The promotional photo for the series showed the actors in a family portrait that made them look a little less like the Munsters and more like a colorful version of the Addams Family.

Fear not for Fuller, though: he is currently working on "Hannibal," the TV series adaptation based on the "Silence of the Lambs" mythos.
