'Mulan' Will Be Next Live-Action Disney Princess Movie
by Andy Neuenschwander
Disney is getting down to business...to create a live-action version of "Mulan."
The studio has reportedly bought the script for an update on the now-classic animated movie, making it the next Disney classic in line to get a live-action adaptation.
That Disney would make this move now is hardly a surprise. The live-action "Cinderella" starring Lily James is currently in theaters and has passed $150 million domestically in just a few short weeks. "Maleficent" performed well also, and Disney's live-action "Alice in Wonderland" earned more than $1 billion worldwide back in 2010.
"Mulan" isn't the only one in the works with an aim for upcoming release, either: Disney has a live-action "The Jungle Book" due out next year, along with an "Alice in Wonderland" sequel. Following that, Disney has "Beauty and the Beast" starring Emma Watson lined up for 2017, and there's even a "Dumbo" movie in the works with Tim Burton at the helm.
The new "Mulan" was written by Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek, and will be produced by "We're the Millers" team Chris Bender and J.C. Spink.
