MTV Brings 'Scream' To Life, Among Other Originals

MTV has announced that they are partnering with Dimension Films to bring a one-hour pilot based on the “Scream” series to the network.

Wes Craven, who directed all four “Scream” films, is in talks to direct the pilot as well. It should air next summer.

The films, which starred Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette, followed the killer Ghostface. They hit 1996, 1997, 2000, and 2011. The early films are credited with reinventing the horror flick, and the four films together have brought in over $600 million worldwide. The 1996 film was reported to be the highest grossing slasher flick in the U.S.

MTV will be adding three other new series as well."Generation Cryo," "Nurse Nation" and "The Hook Up."

“Generation Cryo” focuses on a 17-year-old girl conceived through artificial insemination, who has at least 15 half-siblings.

“Nurse Nation” follows young nurses who travel to a new city for a 13-week tour.

“The Hook Up” is hosted by Andrew Schultz of “Guy Code,” and is a dating show wherein contestants choose dates based on their social media history.

The network also announced that “Snooki and JWOWW will also be returning for a third season.

MTV ratings have been down overall, though “Teen Mom” and “Buckwild” gave them a boost. However, with the death of “Buckwild” cast member Shaine Gandee, the show was cancelled.

What do you think of the new shows—is it about time someone brought “Scream” to the small screen, or is it time to let the franchise die for good?
