More Late Night Moves: Ferguson Out, Where's Chelsea?
by EGThe shake up among late-night talk show hosts that was touched off when David Letterman announced his retirement continued this week when Craig Ferguson announced that he would be leaving "The Late Late Show" on CBS. The announcement wasn't a surprise, but it raised more questions about what the late-night landscape will look like in a year or so.
Ferguson was expected to leave the network once it became clear that he wasn't being considered as a replacement for Letterman on "The Late Show." Ferguson's contract was set to expire next year, but his contract allowed him to exit if he was passed over for Letterman's job. Now he says he'll stay on until the end of 2014.
Stephen Colbert will replace Letterman on "The Late Show" next year, but there's no word on who might be hosting the show that comes after his when he takes the reins. Some have speculated that "The Late Late Show" might go to Chelsea Handler, who says she's leaving her current show on the E! network at the end of the year. CBS, however, says that it's not considering Handler for the job.
Handler, though, has been encouraging speculation about where she might end up. Along with implying that she was in the running for the CBS gig, she also let slip this week that she's "in talks" with Netflix for a show on the service, although it's unclear what the nature of such a show would be, and sources say that Handler is not even close to a deal with Netflix.
