More Cancellations: Which Shows Are Getting Dropped??
by Shannon KeirnanAs the fall season carries on, more fledgling shows are falling tragically early from the nest.
Already we’ve said goodbye to “Animal Practice,” among others. So who got the axe this time?
ABC lost both “666 Park Avenue,” the supernatural drama starring Terry O’Quinn and Vanessa Williams, and “Last Resort,” which has a submarine or something and stars Scott Speedman and Andre Braugher. Each show got thirteen episodes shot before the boot went up their you-know-what, so if you’re holding back tears at this news, don’t worry. A few more episodes will hit the air before their final demise.
ABC will keep both shows on the back burner, keeping its option to revive them if one of their other shows falls apart. “Last Resort” might have failed to draw audiences, but critics were quick to praise the thriller, and blame its Thursday 8pm time slot for its failure to draw in the numbers needed to keep it afloat.
Unsurprisingly, CBS’ attempt to recreate “Will and Grace” also flopped. “Partners,” which starred Sophia Bush and David Krumholtz, will be discontinued, and starting Monday will be replaced with comedy reruns, as CBS waived the option of ordering any more episodes.
No word yet which shows will be slipping in to fill these prime slots. “Whitney” took over for “Animal Practice,” and thus far is performing just about as well. Will this fall be doomed with nothing but reruns?
What do you think of these cancellations? Anything you’re going to be missing this year?
