No Moons Over Emily Browning's Hammy: 'Sucker Punch' Make-Out Scene with Jon Hamm Hits Cutting Room Floor (Watch the Trailer)

To be fair, most actresses would be angry if their make-out scenes with Jon Hamm (aka Don Draper in "Mad Men") hit the cutting room floor. But man, Emily Browning is piiiiised.

After a "very tame and mild love scene" between "Sucker Punch" star Browning and Hamm was edited out of the movie to satisfy the MPAA and earn the film a PG-13, Browning hit the war path.

The actress told Nylon Magazine:

"I don't know what the f**k is going on and I will openly criticize it, happily. So essentially, they got Zack to edit the scene and make it look less like she's into it. And Zack said he edited it down to the point where it looked like he was taking advantage of her. That's the only way he could get a PG-13 (rating) and he said, 'I don't want to send that message.' So they cut the scene!"

In "Sucker Punch," Browning plays a young girl named Babydoll who is involuntarily placed in a mental institution and uses her imagination to escape a very dark reality.

As the official synopsis puts it, "she has been locked away against her will, but Babydoll (Emily Browning) has not lost her will to survive. Determined to fight for her freedom, she urges four other young girls—the reluctant Sweet Pea (Abbie Cornish), the outspoken Rocket (Jena Malone), the street-smart Blondie (Vanessa Hudgens) and the fiercely loyal Amber (Jamie Chung)—to band together and try to escape a terrible fate at the hands of their captors, Blue (Oscar Isaac) and Madam Gorski (Carla Gugino), before the mysterious High Roller (Jon Hamm) comes for Babydoll. Led by Babydoll, the girls engage in fantastical warfare against everything from samurais to serpents, with a virtual arsenal at their disposal. Together, they must decide what they are willing to sacrifice in order to stay alive. But with the help of a Wise Man (Scott Glenn), their unbelievable journey—if they succeed—will set them free."

While it's clear that a make-out scene between an underaged Babydoll (Browning) and a much older High Roller (Hamm) could set off red flags with censors, Browning points out that in the original footage, her character initiated the exchange, taking control of the situation.

"I think that it's great for this young girl to actually take control of her own sexuality. Well, the MPAA doesn't like that. They don't think a girl should ever be in control of her own sexuality because they're from the Stone Age."

It's too bad the MPAA didn't ask to have Carla Gugino's brutal Russian accent edited out of the movie instead.

Sucker Punch goes into wide release this weekend.
