'Mom' Season 1, Episode 5: 'The Psychological Benefits of Reluctant Altruism' Recap

'Mom' Season 1, Episode 5: 'The Psychological Benefits of Reluctant Altruism' Recap Christy and Roscoe are reciting their affirmations as they drive. The car, however, breaks down.

Reluctantly, Christy asks Baxter to give back the money she lent him. He is on it - he's planning to sell Viagra knock-offs from Mexico to old golfers. He reveals he used the money he had buried in her backyard to buy the pills. Wondering if there might be more, Christy takes a shovel to the backyard.

Bonnie drives her daughter to A.A. Christy asks Bonnie if there's a way to loan her enough money to get a car. Bonnie says she, too, is strapped for money. She suggests that she move in with Christy and they can split expenses.

At the meeting, a woman is crying. Christy gives her a tissue and introduces herself. Bonnie notes that the woman has an extremely expensive pair of shoes and handbag. Christy and Bonnie invite the woman, Regina, out for coffee to talk. Regina turns down the offer, but then accepts.

Regina tells them she's going through a tough time in her career. She's in a divorce, and she's a money manager.

They bring Regina, who is in denial, home to stay with them for the night. Bonnie goes through her bag and removes all the drugs, pills, and alcohol, and Christy makes up the couch for her.

Christy has Bonnie sleep over as well. Bonnie notes that if they were roomies they could have a sleepover every night.

Regina comes into the room with a confession. She is over three million dollars in debt... she's been embezzeling from her clients. She thinks the police are waiting for her at her home. Christy suddenly realizes her problems are not so bad. She tells Regina she doesn't have to go through her issues alone, and Regina cuddles in bed with them.

Regina sneaks out in the night. Christy gets up to go find her. They find her biking down the street, on her way to Canada. They bring her back home.

Regina tells Christy she has some money stashed away, and since no doubt the Feds would just take it anyway when they catch her, she offers it to Christy. She turns it down, to Bonnie's annoyance.

Going through her bills, Christy realizes she may have to actually live with Bonnie. Baxter comes in with a wad of cash - his Mexican Viagra plan went surprisingly well. He admits he took one before he came over so Christy could really thank him. She throws him one.
