'Mom' Season 1, Episode 3: 'A Small Nervous Breakdown and a Misplaced Fork' Recap
by Shannon KeirnanChristy goes to her table to grab an order. The man makes it very, very clear that the woman he is with is his sister. And that he is single. He asks about her situation.
Gabriel comes to grab her for a moment, and asks if he was hitting on her. He says he will ask Richie to take the table, but Christy insists she wants the table. The cooks overhear the discussion, and Chef Rudy wins the bet that the two were sleeping together.
She sharply tells Gabriel that she's still in play.
Christy goes to the table and pointedly asks the sister about her brother. She gives her the go-ahead, and Christy tells him she'll write her number on the check.
Bonnie helps Christy pick out a dress for her date, but everything she has is left over from her partying days. She is worried about her date, since she doesn't know how to date sober. Gabriel is married so there's no future there, but this guy... Bonnie suggests she lie about her past.
She comes out in a pink dress, but Violet insults it, and Christy goes to change. Bonnie takes Violet to task about being rude. Violet reluctantly suggests Christy borrow one of her dresses. As a reward, Bonnie tells Violet to go out and she'll watch Roscoe.
Christy goes on her date. Their waitress comes over and her date tries to get her a glass of wine but she has to blurt out that she's a recovering alcoholic. She blurts out more and more details, and rushes off in mortifcation.
Bonnie teaches Roscoe to play blackjack as Violet goes out with her boyfriend.
Christy cries in the car when her date comes and knocks on the window. He brings dinner (he bought a guy's to-go order as he chased her out of the restaurant).
As Bonnie developes Roscoe's gambling problem, Baxter comes, and, prompted by police sirens outside, decides to hang out.
Christy wants to know why her date is so desperate. He admits he just got out of a relationship. It was fine, but the woman couldn't tell him how she was feeling... but Christy can't seem to stop telling him how she's feeling. She tells him she's dealing with a lot at the moment, and he shuts her up with a kiss.
She apologizes and tells him she's clearly not ready to start dating. But when she is, he's the top of her list. He tells her she's not as crazy as she thinks she is.
While playing blackjack, Roscoe realizes Bonnie didn't teach him to hold. Gabriel shows up at the door. Bonnie promptly dismisses him.
As Christy pulls into her driveway, she hits Gabriel. She loads him into the car to go to the emergency room, and breaks up with him, having also broken his nose and leg.
Bonnie gives Christy a present to put some spring in her step. The box vibrates across the table.
