'Mom' Season 1, Episode 18: 'Sonograms and Tube Tops' Recap

Everyone crowds around Violet's ultrasound. The doctor asks if they want to know the sex of the baby, but Violet isn't ready. She says knowing will make it too real.

Baxter delivers a crib, bought by Bonnie and Christy a surprise, but Violet doesn't like it. Christy wishes her daughter weren't in denial about the whole situation. She even bought a tube top the other day. Bonnie suggests throwing a baby shower.

Christy goes to Chef Rudy and asks him if he can hook her up with some leftover food since she's strapped for cash. Later Bonnie suggests Christy get a second job so she has more money, and Christy reminds her she could be employed.

Bonnie goes to the employment agency but doesn't exactly impress. She begins to make conversation with the man and lies about being a certified life coach, giving him her card and insisting she can help him become a Broadway writer...

At home, Christy is making a tiara for Violet to wear at her shower. Violet announces she doesn't want to have a party. When Christy presses, Violet tells her she has decided to give the baby up for adoption.

Christy, worked up, goes to talk to her. Violet says she doesn't want to be like her mother and grandmother, with their wasted lives. She wants a life and a career and to go to school, and her baby to have the same opportunities.

Christy is crushed. Violet asks Bonnie to speak with her. Violet also admits she hasn't told Luke yet.

Bonnie goes to talk with Christy, who admits this baby was a chance to "do over" all the mistakes that she made. Bonnie reminds her how insane their lives would be if Violet kept the baby. Christy imagines the future, and pictures her granddaughter a pregnant teen as well.

Christy goes to speak with her baby and admits that she was hoping for another chance with this baby. She says Violet is her do-over baby, by breaking the cycle.

Bonnie's life coach session goes well, and she is pleased. Violet goes to tell Luke the news.
