'Modern Family' Season 4, Episode 6: 'Yard Sale' Recap

'Modern Family' Season 4, Episode 6: 'Yard Sale' Recap Out with the old and in with the new. After last week's laugh out loud episode, hopes were high for this one. This episode was funny (there really hasn't been a weak one yet) but not up to the standards that the show has set for itself.

We started off the episode learning that Manny and Luke were holding a garage sale for their social studies class. If you asked Manny it was to learn about global altruism, if you asked Luke it was about beating Ms. Coopers class to have a pizza party. Whatever gets you to help!

While setting up, we learn that Jay hates yard sales. This has less to do with the sale and more to do with people invading his personal space.

Cam's big donation were his jeans. He's lost 25 pounds now and decided to get rid of 6 pairs of jeans. Mitch decides that this is a bad idea in case he gains the weight back. He goes behind his back to grab the jeans. Don't mess with Cam and his weight loss!

Phil decided to prove to the world that he's still a man. Jay pulled out an old motorcycle and asked Phil if he wanted it. Phil is of course scared of motorcycles, who isn't though?

Claire is scared that Alex's boyfriend is gay. Cam and Mitch tell her that all guys are metro now and that it's hard to tell who's gay and who's not gay. After meeting Alex's boyfriend they both conclude that he is in fact probably gay.

After taking the bike out, getting scared, thinking of "Happy Days," and forgetting that hes scared, Phil crashed and his bike fell on him. In an homage to "127 Hours," he dramatized his time alone under his bike.

Speaking of dramatic, we learned that Gloria did ventriloquism in her beauty pageant days. Manny found an old trunk and the truth came out! apparently she has an unresolved past with the dummy which she was trying to keep to herself.

Alex got the courage to ask her boyfriend if he was gay, he defensively said that he was not. Very often though coming out isn't about the people around you but about those coming to terms with it themselves internally, something this episode highlights.

Gloria ended up gaining closure when she performed her ventriloquism act for the family. As Claire pointed out though, there's a creepy likeness to her puppet Mr. Grumpy and Jay.

Cam eventually told Mitch that he needed him to get rid of his safety net, aka the jeans, and Phil came back from underneath the bike minus one of his pants legs.
