'Modern Family' Star Ariel Winter Finally Emancipated

'Modern Family' Star Ariel Winter Finally Emancipated "Modern Family" star Ariel Winter has finally been granted emancipation from her family, after struggling for years to seperate herself from her estranged mother.

In 2012, Winter's sister, Shanelle Gray, was given guardianship of the minor after her mother Chrisoula Workman was discovered to be emotionally abusive. Workman fought the proceedings, finally settling right before the case would go to trial.

Winter took to her Twitter to share the good news, thanking her sister as well as her father, who was put in control of her finances in 2014.

"I'm really lucky I have an amazing support system and lovely people in my life who have given me the support and guidance to have been given this wonderful opportunity," Winter announced on Friday.

"Most importantly, I want to thank @shanelle_gray and my father for their special support regarding this matter, I really couldn't have done it without them. Thank you to all of my family, friends, and fans who have supported me through all of my endeavours in life, and have encouraged me. Thank you for making my life so special! I can't wait to embark on my new adventures."

Last weekend for Mother's Day, Winter posted a photo with her older sister, captioned with a touching message.

"I love you more than words can even describe and I'm so lucky to have you as my sister... You are my inspiration. Without your love and support I wouldn't have become the person I am today. I'm so happy we get to begin the next chapter of our lives going on sister adventures and making new, special memories. You're amazing, Shanelle. I love you to the moon."
