'The Mindy Project' Season 3, Episode 12: 'Christmas' Recap
by Shannon KeirnanHaving found the perfect man, Mindy wonders when Danny is going to lock her down. She begins trying to figure out if he's planning to propose, and, after piecing together a shredded credit card statement, finds a large charge from Forever Stones.
Dr. Fishman recommends Mindy for a Stanford teaching fellowship after seeing how well she is doing as a teacher. She would go to Stanford for eight months to learn the latest techniques. Mindy is reluctant only because she thinks Danny is about to propose.
Peter is being so responsible lately that Danny is actually willing to set him up with someone - his friend Jessica. One small issue: she's a hoarder.
Jeremy tells everyone that, as Lauren feels he is growing distant, he invited her neurosurgery colleagues to the annual office Christmas party, so it has to be an elegant affair. Everyone is furious.
Mindy overhears Danny on the phone talking about a stone and setting, and how he can't wait to show his girlfriend.
Mindy runs into Jessica, who is curious about Peter. Mindy tells her that Peter's in the lounge eating popcorn. He WAS, but has given Morgan his remaining popcorn and left, so Jessica assumes that Morgan is the one she's being set up with. Morgan thinks the set-up is Danny's secret Santa gift.
Over a nice dinner, Danny shows Mindy the stone... a gravestone. He has bought himself a grave plot. A single grave plot in a great setting.
Mindy goes to tell Jean she will apply for the fellowship.
She tells Danny about applying. He's reluctant, but she points out they're not engaged or anything so what's the big deal? It's a great opportunity.
A little dazed, Danny tells Peter about it. Peter thinks it's an engagement trap. Mindy wants a recommendation from the doctor dating Danny's mom, but when the doctor asks Danny for help on it, Danny suggests he not worry about it, since Mindy probably isn't serious about going.
Morgan's date with Jessica goes well. So well in fact that she invites him up. Morgan isn't phased by her apartment, but he is when he finds out after sleeping with Jessica that she believes he is Peter.
At the holiday party, Jessica shows up, so Morgan has to quickly tell Peter what happened. Mindy finds out that the doctor didn't write her recommendation, and is crushed. Danny realizes she was actually very serious about going, and showing people what she was capable of doing.
Mindy shows a "documentary" on Danny for her secret Santa gift, which outs Morgan and Peter. Danny is touched, especially listening to Mindy read an old letter he sent to her. He walks off, and Mindy takes that to mean he hated it.
Danny has raced to his mother's house. He asks for her engagement ring. He thinks proposing is the only way to make things right. Annette says he's doing it wrong - he needs to get her into the fellowship, which is what she wants.
Morgan explains to Jessica what happened, and asks for another chance, which she agrees is fine. Peter gives Lauren a gift for Henry.
Danny brings Mindy's application to Jean, with the final recommendation written by himself. He brings a copy home for Mindy to read.
Two weeks later, she is accepted.
