'The Mindy Project' Season 1, Episode 20: 'Pretty Man' Recap

'The Mindy Project' Season 1, Episode 20: 'Pretty Man' Recap Mindy thinks the best part of NY is the night life—however her friends are all geriatric shut ins.

Alex, for example, is staying in to watch TV with Danny.

Mindy goes to the bar. As she chats with the bartender, she sees a handsome, magnetic man across the bar. He comes over and introduces himself as Adam.

They chat, and he tells her to take him home with her. They’re making out on the bed when he asks her how much she wants to spend. She realized he is a prostitute. She kicks him out, surprising him.

“I’m never going out again,” she declares.

At work, Mindy is sketchy about the details of her night. She tries to get Danny to go to a play with her but he has more plans with Alex to go to Vermont. Brendan comes in with a package accidentally delivered to him and Danny tells her to take Brendan to the theater. Mindy is dismissive of the idea. She gives the tickets to Morgan.

Mindy gets food with Maggie and Alex, and Maggie spills the beans that Alex and Danny are having a party. Alex says she wanted to invite Mindy, but…

Mindy confronts Danny at work. He explains it was a small dinner. Mindy announces loudly that Danny is having a big part and everyone is invited.

He follows her into her office and tells her to come. He says if he had invited her she would have brought one of the “dick” guys she dates. He reveals that he saw her with Brendan. Betsy comes in and tells her there is a handsome man to see her—it is the prostitute. He tells her he needs his money.

Mindy goes to the ATM. He says he can tell she was having a crappy day. He asks if he can make it up to her and invites her to coffee.

Danny tells Alex about the conundrum of everyone coming to the party. Jeremy comes in and asks them to warn Maggie he is bringing someone to the party, and their policy on small children.

Adam has not seen “Pretty Women.” He lets her into his place, and meets Adam’s roommate, a taxi driver. She admires his trophies from singing competitions. Mindy asks him to sing, and he pulls out his keyboard. Mindy is amazed. She decides to help him. She calls Danny and tell him she is bringing a date. She will let him live “Pretty Women.”

She takes him shopping.

The party is going well until Morgan brings in chicken wings and Danny panics about how messy they are.

Maggie says hi to Jeremy, who thinks there will be a scene, but she has a date.

Everyone titters about how attractive Adam is. Mindy tells Danny he is a singer/songwriter. Adam claims to have railroad money. Alex tells Adam to play on Danny’s piano, and he sings some Norah Jones. Mindy sits on top of the piano but Danny makes her get off.

The group encourages Danny to play. He tries to play some Beethoven but struggles. Adam sits with him and helps him out. Mindy tries to get back on the piano.

Danny finds Mindy snooping in his bedroom and tries to boot her out. He gets mad at her going through his stuff and explores his bathroom. Danny gets upset that she points out his dandruff shampoo, and she tries to calm him down. She tells Danny she didn’t tell him about Brendan because he hurt her, and Danny says he was stupid for doing so.

Morgan chats with Adam. Mindy goes and tells Alex she has done a good job with Danny, he is opening up a lot. She lets slip about the ex wife, which Alex did not know about. She runs to yell at Danny. Mindy tells Adam to play more music—something original.

Everyone settles down and listens to him. It doesn’t go over very well when he sings about 9/11. Adam storms off saying he doesn’t belong there. He announces to everyone that he is a prostitute, and he likes it. He kisses Mindy goodbye.

Danny yells at Mindy for bringing a prostitute into his home.

Everyone leaves. Danny, a little drunk, smokes outside, and Mindy yells at him about it. He tells her he and Alex broke up.

On the subway home Mindy talks to Morgan about what happened. She tells him Danny says she only goes out with guys who are dicks. Morgan cheers her up by making fun of him.
