Singer Mindy McCready Dead After Apparently Committing Suicide

Singer Mindy McCready Dead After Apparently Committing Suicide Sad news today. Country singer Mindy McCready has apparently committed suicide.

Sunday afternoon, Cleburne County sheriff deputies responded to a report of shots fired at McCready’s home. When they arrived, they found McCready’s body on the porch of her Arkansas home.

"Ms. McCready was pronounced dead at the scene from what appears to be a single self-inflicted gunshot wound," the sheriff's department says in a statement. "At this time family members have been notified of the incident. Ms. Mcready will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy and the matter will be fully investigated."

She is survived by her son Zander, 6, and Zayne, 10 months. She was 37 years old.

McCready had a history of trouble with drugs, alcohol, and mental health. She attempted suicide multiple times, including slitting her wrists and taking 30 antidepressants while pregnant with her first child.

In 2009, she appeared on VH1’s “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew” to try and straighten her life out.

In January, McCready’s boyfriend and the father of Zayne, singer and songwriter David Wilson, died from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. McCready was lightly investigated but not considered a suspect in the case.

"Today, we mourn the loss of my life partner and my children's father, David Wilson," McCready said in a statement Jan. 14. "David was my soulmate; he was a caregiver and guiding hand to our sons, Zander and Zayne. He was a precious gift from God to all of us and, yesterday, he returned home and is now with his mother and father.

Three weeks later McCready was committed to a treatment facility for mental health issues and alcohol abuse. Her sons were placed in foster care.
