Miley Cyrus to Become The Voice Coach, Internet Grumbles About It

Miley Cyrus settled into her new role as an advisor on NBC's The Voice this week, but it's the role she'll be playing on the show next season that's really shaking things up. NBC announced at the end of last week that Cyrus and Alicia Keys would be full-fledged coaches next season, replacing the departing Pharrell and Gwen Stefani. The move has drawn fire from some quarters of the show's social media fan base.

The network is clearly hoping that Cyrus, whose claim to fame has more to do with her tendency to act weird and take off her clothes than with her singing talents, will keep younger viewers interested in The Voice and maybe grab a few headlines. But often the headlines that Cyrus grabs are negative, and the haters took to Twitter after the announcement to vent their displeasure.

Cyrus' presence will, however, help the show achieve gender equity. The addition of Cyrus and Keys will mark the first time that The Voice has employed two female coaches at the same time, increasing the odds that a female-coached contestant will win the competition, something that's never happened before.
