Is Meryl Streep Joining 'Anchorman 2?'
by Shannon KeirnanSorry, folks. While it would be kind of amazing to see Oscar winner Meryl Streep step up alongside Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, James Marsden, Kristin Wiig, and even Harrison Ford, the great actress will not be making an appearance in the “Anchorman” sequel.
How did the rumor get started? While filming “Hope Springs,” Streep simply complimented co-star Steve Carell on how much she loves the comedy.
"I jokingly said, 'You should be in it,'" Meryl said, 'Could you imagine?' And it was just that."
“She’s actually busy,” Carell added with a laugh. “She can’t do it.”
Yet, as typical, the rumor hit the Internet, and soon Meryl Streep was literally “begging” to become a part of “Anchorman: The Legend Continues.”
“Meryl Streep told me she was a huge ‘Anchorman’ fan and she’d love to have a cameo in the sequel. That could be really funny. There are going to be plenty of great cameos in this movie,” reads the false quote that got everyone’s briefs in a twist.
"Yes she was a fan," Carell clarifies. "But there's no validity to that."
However don’t worry that the “Anchorman” sequel will lack for laughs just because Streep won’t be joining. Carell is plenty pleased with the way the film is heading.
“It’s gonna be really funny. It’s a great script,” he said. “I think the fact that it had eight years to gestate [was helpful]. The second one actually makes sense. It’s smart and really silly at the same time.”
