'Men in Black III' Director Thinks Justin Bieber is an Alien
by Andy NeuenschwanderOne of the fun recurring gags of the "Men in Black" franchise is outing a number of celebrities as aliens in each movie. For example, in "Men in Black," we learned that Arnold Schwarzenegger, Danny DeVito and Dennis Rodman are all aliens, among others. In "Men in Black III," we learn that Lady Gaga is an alien (to quote the first movie, "not much of a disguise"), and that Justin Bieber is from out space as well.
Justin Bieber? International pop star and heartthrob to millions of girls? An alien? How could that be?
Vulture caught up with "Men in Black III" director Barry Sonnenfeld to ask him why Bieber was on the list of extraterrestrial immigrants. His answer? Quite simple: "He's from Canada," Sonnenfeld said, before launching into a very specific and thought-out explanation as to why Bieber, and indeed most Canadians, are aliens.
This is the story, according to Sonnenfeld: a particular species of alien planned to settle on Earth, but needed to send some spies here first. They were going to live in the densely populated (and, lets face it, alien-friendly due to natural camouflage) United States, but the coordinates from the spies got scrambled and they all ended up in Canada instead. Thus, Canada is heavily populated with aliens who are "way too nice" and buy milk in bags.
That would explain a lot about Alanis Morrissette and Tom Green, wouldn't it? And Ryan Gosling, too. That guy is using some kind of hypnosis, I know it.
Who else is on Sonnenfeld's alien radar? Pretty much anyone who's a star athlete: Sonnenfeld suspects Yao Ming because of his shocking height among the Chinese population, Shaun White for his suspected "anti-gravity techniques," and David Beckham because he's just way too good at soccer.
