'Melrose Place' Star Convicted of Vehicular Manslaughter

'Melrose Place' Star Convicted of Vehicular Manslaughter Amy Locane-Bovenizer, who you might recognize as a former star from “Melrose Place” and “Cry Baby,” has been convicted of vehicular manslaughter and assault with an automobile. She was driving with her husband, Mark Bovenizer, who is a “wine educator and proprietor of Community Liquors in Princeton.”

The 40-year-old actress killed a 60-year-old woman named Helen Seeman, who was driving with her husband Fred Seeman, in 2010. Locane-Bovenzier’s blood alcohol level was at three times the legal limit after attending a cast party for an off-Broadway play. She also stopped to join her husband and children at a barbeque in Montgomery Township. She consumed approximately ten alcoholic drinks during the evening.

Lovane-Bovenzier ran her SUV into the car driven by the New Jersey-based couple, killing Helen and severely injuring Fred. Her lawyers maintain that while she was intoxicated at the time, the actress was being pursued by a woman chasing her after an earlier accident, forcing her to drive over the speed limit.

Huh?

The actress will serve five to ten years in prison for the first charge, and three to five for the second. She will be allowed to serve them concurrently.

Attorneys for the Seeman family released this statement at the rather disappointing news:

“This is a sad day for the Seeman family. There were no winners declared by the verdict. There are only losers. A husband lost his dear wife; his two children lost their mother; and Helene’s mother lost her daughter. That loss can never be rectified by a verdict.”
