Melissa McCarthy Will Star in Ghostbusters Reboot, Director Confirms
by Andy Neuenschwander
If you're making a reboot, and you need a star, who ya gonna call? Melissa McCarthy!
The "Bridesmaids" star is set to play the lead in the upcoming "Ghostbusters" reboot, as confirmed by director Paul Feig. Feig directed McCarthy in both "The Heat" and "Bridesmaids," so it's hardly a surprise that she's been tapped to star here.
After many failed attempts to get a true "Ghostbusters" sequel going, all hopes of a reunion of the original cast vanished when Harold Ramis passed away last year. Thus, Feig was put in charge of putting a reboot together that was rumored to feature an all-female ghost-busting team.
Those rumors appear to be true: In addition to the confirmation of McCarthy, Feig hinted on Twitter at the other three actresses who are being approached for roles in the movie by posting a photo of McCarthy with "Bridesmaids" co-star Kristen Wiig and "Saturday Night Live" cast members Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon.
As of yet, none of the three are confirmed. It would be a huge surprise for McKinnon or Jones to turn down such a huge opportunity, though, considering they don't have many credits outside of "SNL." Wiig might be a different story, especially since she has yet to star in anything resembling an action movie, even one with heavy comedy leanings.
