Is Mel Gibson Back? 'The Beaver' Star in Talks for 'Sleight of Hand'

The Beaver.jpg" style="margin: 5px; float: left; width: 300px; height: 178px;" />It's hard to get caught driving drunk, go on an anti-semitic rant, and make violently threatening calls to your ex-wife and still have people like you.

Seriously, whatever witchcraft Mel Gibson has working for him, I want some of it. Seems like the guy could knock over a bank at gunpoint and get away with it.

After his film "The Beaver," directed by and co-starring Jodie Foster, received a tremendous ovation at Cannes, Gibson is now reportedly in talks to join the heist comedy "Sleight of Hand."

"Sleight of Hand" currently stars Kiefer Sutherland, Gerard Depardieu, and "The Mentalist" Thomas Jane, and centers on a group of slightly incompetant thieves who accidentally steal a rare coin belonging to a dangerous gangster. It sounds like a pretty good time (everybody loves a heist, don't they?) and the cast is already very strong. As of now, the role that Gibson would play is unclear.

Gibson was recently considered for a cameo in "The Hangover: Part II," but was booted from the production at the complaints of some of the other stars involved. That was more at the height of Gibson's personal disaster, so things may have calmed down enough for Gibson to resume work (with those who aren't as trusting of him as Jodie Foster).

What do you think? Should Mel Gibson be able to continue acting, or were his past actions inexcusable?
