Meet the Israeli Model Cast as Wonder Woman in the New Superman/Batman Movie
by Andy NeuenschwanderLadies and gentlemen, meet your new Wonder Woman.
Reports have confirmed that Gal Gadot, an Israeli model and actress, will be taking on the role of the Amazon princess in the sequel to "Man of Steel," Zack Snyder's reboot of the Superman franchise.
Fans of the "Fast & Furious" franchise might recognize Gadot: She most recently played the role of Gisele in "Fast Five" and "Fast & Furious 6."
Gadot certainly looks the part of the beautiful superheroine...in fact, she represented Israel in 2004's Miss Universe pageant.
Warner Bros. is taking something of a risk casting a relative unknown in the role, especially considering the backlash they got from the Internet at large when they cast Ben Affleck as Batman to Henry Cavill's Superman.
Already Twitter has begun reacting to the news, with many of Gadot's fans giving positive feedback to the announcement. Others, however, are lamenting that a thin model has been chosen for a role that has represented strength and independence for women for so long.
Many were hoping for "Haywire" star Gina Carano to fill the role, while "Quantum of Solace" Bond girl Olga Kurylenko and "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" toughie Elodie Yung both auditioned for the part.
Gadot certainly has big shoes (or red boots) to fill, as Lynda Carter became synonymous with Wonder Woman with the 1970's TV series. More recently, "Friday Night Lights" star Adrianne Palicki took on the role for a TV reboot, but it never made it past the pilot stage.
What do you think? Is Gadot the right choice for the role?
