'The Maze Runner' Trailer Hits: Is This the New 'Hunger Games?'

We hope you're not done with the dystopian future young adult novel adaptation trilogies, because a new contender has entered the fray.

"The Maze Runner," based on the best-selling novel by author James Dashner, has a brand-new trailer, and it looks to combine the excitement of "The Hunger Games" with the mystery of "Lost."

The trailer sets up the story: A teenager named Thomas wakes up to find himself coming up an elevator into an enclosed glade, with almost no memories of his past. Once there, he finds himself living and working with other boys just like him...all while trapped at the center of a giant maze.

The trailer doesn't reveal much, but we do see that things start to change once Thomas shows up...and that includes the arrival of the only girl in the Glade.

We also get small glimpses, but no full-on reveals, of the other creatures that inhabit the glade. Fans of the book will know which ones we mean.

The movie stars Dylan O'Brien of "Teen Wolf" fame, along with a host of other relative unknowns with nonetheless familiar faces. Thomas Brodie-Sangster of "Game of Thrones" and "Love Actually," Aml Ameen of "Lee Daniels' The Butler," and Kaya Scodelario of the UK's "Skins" round out the main cast.

"The Maze Runner" is one of a trilogy of books, with a fourth book published as a prequel. You can bet that, if "The Maze Runner" does well at the box office, at least one of those books will be split into two movies.

But there's a question of dystopian YA novel fatigue: With two more "Hunger Games" movies coming up, "Divergent" releasing next weekend (with two more movies potentially on the way) and the recent failure of "Ender's Game" to drum up much interest, audiences might be tiring of the sci-fi young adult genre.
