Maryland Shooting Was Near 'House of Cards' Set
by EG
A guman opened fire in a Maryland office park on Wednesday. As of Wednesday afternoon, the gunman was still on the loose, and authorities were searching for the suspect in the area. The shooting was in the vicinity of the House of Cards set, but reports say that the show's production was not affected by the shooting. That didn't stop the show's executive producer from jumping on social media to criticize media coverage of the event, however. Dana Brunetti claimed that news media was not covering the shooting, but all the major national news outlets were, in fact, covering the incident by late Wednesday morning.
Despite an ongoing manhunt for a gunman who opened fire at an office park on Wednesday morning, the Maryland set of Netflix's House of Cards has not been impacted.
"We have been in touch with local authorities and are aware of a shooting situation that happened about a mile away from the House of Cards set," Netflix and production company Media Rights Capital told The Hollywood Reporter in a joint statement. "Production on the show has not been impacted."
Executive producer Dana Brunetti first shared the news that the shooting was near the set on his social media accounts. "Shooting near House of Cards set," he wrote. He then criticized the mainstream news for not covering the local breaking story. "I turn on the news to see what is happening, and guess what they're covering? Not the 5 dead and 3 wounded while gunman is still on the loose."
Brunetti took particular issue with CNN, saying the network had asked him to come on air recently to discuss House of Cards' Russia storylines, but that today he was seeing only "nonstop" coverage of Attorney General Jeff Sessions testimonies. "There is an ongoing active shooter near the House of Cards stage and ZERO coverage," he wrote.
